Being a peer-support Programme, HIPPYSA, recruits its site staff from the parenting community enrolled in our programme.
All HIPPY parents, who have enrolled their children for 2 years, qualify to be considered for a trainee home-visitor place. Sites absorb between 1 and 5 home-visitors annually.
Each site has between 3 and 12 home-visitors depending on the number of recruited families in the site and whether the site is a pilot site or a full site. in a pilot site, each home visitor will have a case-load of 8-12 families, while in full-sites home-visitors have no more than 18 families each.
Each site is run by a para-professional coordinator who either has a level 4 qualification or is enrolled for one. All coordinators are expected to complete level 5 within three years of being appointed. Home-visitors, employed for two years in the programme, all have an opportunity to become trainee, then full coordinators, as such roles become available in the site.
Our professional office (core office) is made up of professional staff – an administrator, the Director and Programme Managers. Each programme manager is responsible for three sites of up to 675 families, and up to 22 staff. Therefore a programme manager can oversee up to 65 staffers in each site. Programme Managers are child-development professionals with at least an honours level degree or comparative professional qualification in social sciences (sociology, psychology, social work), humanities (education, community development or public policy) , or professional degrees such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, counselling or nursing.
