Our programming is based on six core principles of early development:
- Parents everywhere want the best for their children;
- Parents do teach their children and can introduce them to concepts and nurture skills they’ll need for school and life;
- Children, although different in pace and temperament, are natural learners;
- At all ages, we learn by doing;
- Interaction between parent and child is strengthened every time they engage together in enriching activities;
- Parents can help other parents/caregivers.
But we accept that not all parents/caregivers have the skills, tools and confidence to nurture their pre-school children in their developmental quest, so through our programme we integrate the following values and practices:
- We value and promote the universal place of parents/caregivers as first and most significant nurturers of their children’s well-being;
- We believe that children replicate their primary relationships throughout their life and therefore a positive early relationship can contribute to productive and responsible adulthood at the individual and societal level;
- We help parents/caregivers support their children’s curiosity, love for learning and readiness for school in every way;
- We build parents/caregivers’ confidence, capabilities and happiness in nurturing their children’s development which enriches the interaction between parent and child;
- We reach out to families and communities grappling with socio-economic and cultural challenges and provide support for them to overcome these challenges.
Our vision is to transform household relations to produce a new generation of active learners who will develop into responsible and engaged South African citizens. Our mission is five-fold:
- Through parental interaction, empower pre-school children to enter society prepared to succeed in every developmental area – cognitive, motor, behavioural and social;
- Through home visits, parental advice and support, to empower caregivers to create the best possible environment for young children to thrive;
- Through family programming, activate children’s rights and responsibilities;
- Through building resilient families, create more socially cohesive communities.
- Through collective interaction, create a unified, goal-oriented, passionate and supportive organisation.
